Day 29: Lomani Island Resort
24 January 2010

A slightly troubled sleep from having the air-conditioning on constantly, dehydrating us through the night. But we soon forgot about that when we opened the curtains at the front of the suite. We're about 30 meters from the beautiful turquoise sea and sandy beaches, the sun is already beating down and the heat just hits you as you step outside. We have breakfast - fruit, juices, cereal and bacon and eggs and wander down to the beach. The water is lovely - no hint of coldness as you wade in and fish are constantly swimming around you, undetered by your presence.

There are kayaks on the beach for anyone in the resort to use so we take one each and paddle out and along the coast for a kilometer or two and over the reef in the shallows. Next we got our snorkelling gear from the resort to use while we're here and swim out to the coral reef about 100 meters off the beach (The water is still standable in, but only just). The reef is full of fish of all shapes and colours, bright blue starfish, cigar fish and sea cucumbers a-plenty! The water is warm, clear and calm - perfect for swimming.

Figuring that was enough exercise for the morning we just sat on the beach and admire the view and read our books. Early afternoon we get invited by the resort manager and another staff member to join them on one of the Hobie Cats, the small sailing catamarans which I do. Sarah stays on the beach to laugh as necessary if I fall off and we head out past the reef and the underwater drop-off to a sand bank about a mile out to sea which they say is only exposed for a few hours each day at low tide and they've even conducted weddings out here.

Back at the beach and it's getting hotter still so we move from the loungers to a couple of hammocks under the trees on the beach and have a little nap to the sound of the waves gently lapping just a few feet away. There doesn't appear to be any reason to leave the resort if you're only staying for five nights as the resort caters for anything you might want, the restaurant has a wide range of delicious sounding dishes and the no-children policy means the whole place is quiet and relaxed. Tonight I had a lovely steak and Sarah had some prawns with coconut rice which was excellent too if here reaction was anything to go by.

Following our snorkelling earlier in the day (without a t-shirt on) we are both now sun-burnt on our backs which is going to make sleeping difficult. The room is nice and cool which helps but I'm still considering putting the sheets in the fridge or filling the bath with aftersun and sleeping in that!
